Main myths:
➖“I clicked something and it all went wrong.”
81% of respondents believe that you have to do something to get your smartphone infected. However, this is not always the case, as malware can infect a device without user participation, for example, through system vulnerabilities.
➖ “Updates are not about security”
52% of respondents believe that OS and application must be updated only to get new features. In fact, security patches are vital for protection against immediate threats.
➖ “New means ‘free of malware”“
41% of respondents believe that a newly purchased smartphone cannot be infected. But sometimes malware can get embedded into a device before it is even sold.
➖ “iOS is safer than Android”
35% of respondents are convinced that iPhones are better protected than Android smartphones. The reality, however, is that both popular mobile platforms are now roughly on par in terms of cybersecurity.
Experts urge users to be vigilant and not to trust popular myths. Regular updates, the use of reliable security solutions and cyber hygiene are key to mobile device security.
